Across the river there is a small
(OK, ~1,000,000 sqm) pristine jungle, Protected Reserve, complete with flora and fauna, including a small tribe of "Stump-tailed Macaques" a specie of Monkeys with an extremely short tail.
Cost is 75,000 KIP / person, including Boat, Guide and a contribution to the village, taking care of the Protected Reserve.

We are also in the vicinity of a 2,000 square kilometer Protected Area, Phou Khao Khouay.
Ecotourism Activities Available: Elephant observation, trekking, kayaking, village home stay, bird watching.
Key Species: White-cheeked gibbons, leopards, elephants and green peafowl.
Habitat: Dry evergreen and mixed deciduous forest. Also large stands of coniferous forest in association with extensive fire-climax grasslands. The Nam Leuk reservoir covers 1,280 hectares at the height of the wet season.
Cost is depending of how many participants: about
65 US$/person, 1 day (min 4 pax), up to 300US$ for a single person, 2 day trekk, all inclusive.

Ban Lao Pako runs its own developement program for the surrounding villages. We are helping them to raise their living standard without harming the natural forest, with activities such as growing vegetables, improving the small schools etc. As a guest you can be a part of this by taking one of our tours.
